The GATE 2023 paper analysis will help candidates to get a basic idea about the question pattern and how the examinations were conducted previously. In 2023, the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering was successfully conducted by IIT Kanpur on the 4th, 5th, 11th and 12th of February 2023. The examination was conducted as a Computer-based Test (CBT) for 29 papers in online mode. The weightage of marks for AE, AG, BT, BM, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PE, PI, TF, ST, and XE papers are divided mainly into three sections according to the GATE Examination pattern, that is:

  • 13% of the total marks, that is, 13 marks are from the Engineering Mathematics section.
  • 15% of the total marks, that is, 15 marks, are from the General Aptitude section
  • The remaining 72% of the total marks, that is, 72 marks are from the subject selected.

The weightage of marks for AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH, and XL papers is divided into two sections according to the GATE Examination pattern, that is:

  • 15% of the total marks, that is, 15 marks, are from the General Aptitude section.
  • The remaining 85% of the total marks, that is, 85 marks are from the subject selected.

GATE Exam Question Pattern

The pattern of the GATE Examination varies slightly every year. Candidates cannot presume a fixed pattern and expect it to be the same. So, they have to make sure that they are analysing and checking the latest updates for the specific exam pattern of their chosen paper. Three sets of questions mainly appear in the GATE Examination.
